Hunt School of Nursing Program Receives 10-year Accreditation for Master's Degree Program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education

The accreditation supports the school’s mission to address the nursing shortage

The Texas Tech Health El Paso Hunt School of Nursing will continue to address our Borderplex’s long-standing nursing shortage after receiving another 10-year accreditation for their master's degree program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, the commission plays a key role in advancing public health. It does so by assessing and identifying programs that engage in effective educational practices.

The Hunt School of Nursing was founded in 2010 through a $10 million gift from the Hunt Family Foundation to establish a nursing school at Texas Tech Health El Paso.

Texas has witnessed a deficit in the nursing workforce. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas is projected to have a shortage of almost 60,000 nurses by 2030. Since the school’s founding in 2011, the institution has elevated the registered nurse workforce by 45%, with over 1,300 graduates serving communities across West Texas and southern New Mexico. Approximately 90% of those graduates remain in our Borderplex to practice, anchoring their careers in the communities where they grew up and studied.

Because most nursing graduates remain in the area, the Hunt School of Nursing is making a significant impact on the region’s nursing shortage. Early entry into their career and a path to economic success early on is a victory for nurses, their families and our Borderplex economy.

The commission’s board determined that the program complied with all four accreditation standards that ensure quality and accountability. These standards include:

Mission and governance, which assess alignment with institutional goals, professional standards and community needs.

Institutional commitment and resources, which examine faculty qualifications, financial support, facilities and student services.

Curriculum and teaching–learning practices, which ensure evidence-based instruction and clinical preparation aligned with professional competencies.

Assessment and achievement of program outcomes, which focus on measurable student success, licensure performance and continuous program improvement through data-driven evaluation.
