Endowed Scholarship Gift

Texas Tech Health El Paso Faculty Member and Wife Establish New Endowed Scholarship with $25,000 Gift
Gift includes $5,000 award Dr. Scott Crawford received as a 2025 Piper Professor
A new endowed scholarship has been created at Texas Tech Health El Paso thanks to Scott B. Crawford, M.D., FACEP, FSSH, FAWM, Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Executive Director of the Training and Educational Center for Healthcare Simulation (TECHS), and his wife, Jenn, Assistant Vice President for Strategic Marketing in UTEP’s Marketing and Communications division.
The couple has committed $25,000 to the institution to launch the Crawford Family Endowed Scholarship. The gift will support students across the Foster School of Medicine, Hunt School of Dental Medicine and Hunt School of Nursing.
The endowment includes a $5,000 award from the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation, which Dr. Crawford received as one of the 2025 Piper Professors — a prestigious statewide honor recognizing superior teaching in Texas higher education.
“Being nominated by our campus and selected at the state level as a Piper Professor was a deeply meaningful experience,” said Dr. Crawford. “I had so many opportunities afforded to me during my own education, and I’ve always hoped I’d be able to give back one day. Jenn and I both think highly of higher education, and we understand how financial challenges can be a barrier. We’re happy to be in a position to support students in our Borderplex — especially those preparing to serve their communities through health care.”
The Crawford Family Endowed Scholarship will provide financial support to students from the three clinical schools on an annual rotating basis, helping alleviate financial obstacles while also recognizing academic and professional potential.
“This is the kind of generosity that moves the needle for our students — not just financially, but emotionally and psychologically,” said Craig Holden, assistant vice president for development at Texas Tech Health El Paso. “To receive an award like this, established by a faculty member and his wife, gives our students an incredible boost in motivation. It shows them that their hard work is seen, valued and supported.”
The Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation has recognized excellence in college teaching in Texas since 1958. Each year, 10 faculty members from across the state are selected as Piper Professors and awarded $5,000. Previous Texas Tech Health El Paso recipients include Rajkumar Lakshmanaswamy, Ph.D., dean of the Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and Thwe Htay, M.D., professor of medical education.
