Leadership Excellence
Trauma Surgeon Thrives in Leadership Role at Texas Tech Health El Paso
With roots in Appalachia, Tiffany M. Lasky, D.O., brings a unique perspective for health care in West Texas
To join the team of faculty surgeons at Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Foster School of Medicine, Tiffany M. Lasky, D.O., M.H.S., had to navigate to a starkly different landscape. She traded the misty mountains and winding roads of rural Appalachia for the vast, arid Chihuahuan Desert surrounding El Paso.
But she wouldn’t have it any other way. The opportunity to be part of a surgical group with a growing national reputation for excellence at Texas Tech Health El Paso and its clinical arm, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso, was impossible to say no to.
“Senior leadership here is very much in tune with growth and achieving our highest potential,” said Dr. Lasky, who joined Texas Tech Health El Paso as a Professor of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery this year. “There is never a question about are we going to meet the highest national standards; we just dive right into how are we going to meet them together. That level of commitment was worth moving across the country to me.”
Dr. Lasky, who is board certified in Surgical Critical Care and General Surgery, brings a wealth of experience from her years serving the communities of rural Appalachia. Before moving to El Paso, she spent nearly 20 years in the region as a professor of surgery at East Tennessee State University and West Virginia University. Her clinical experience includes surgical care in Level I trauma centers.
Dr. Lasky graduated from Michigan State University, where she completed her residency in General Surgery in the Detroit area. She holds fellowships in the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons.
Her educational and clinical background developed in rural Appalachia aligns well with the mission of the Foster School of Medicine. Medical students are prepared to practice in underserved areas, including rural far West Texas and border communities where residents have difficulty accessing care.
Dr. Lasky also aims to help open more doors for medical school graduates seeking advanced surgical training in our unique border region. Her goals are to establish additional residency and fellowship opportunities at Texas Tech Health El Paso.
And for El Pasoans who may find themselves in need of surgical care, Dr. Lasky’s experience and competence extends well beyond the classroom. With Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso, she holds the titles of Associate Trauma Medical Director and Pediatric Trauma Medical Director. She plays an important role on the Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso trauma surgery team that cares for our community in area hospital emergency departments, operating rooms and intensive care units. She also sees patients at Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso’s trauma and surgical critical care clinics.
Thanks to highly experienced faculty surgeons like Dr. Lasky, residents of our Borderplex community have access to advanced levels of surgical care, incorporating the latest in specialized surgery equipment and expertise.
“We on the trauma team sincerely hope that something as tragic as an injury never happens to you or your family, but if it does, we want to be there to help,” Dr. Lasky said. “We work every day to ensure the safest and fastest recovery possible for anyone in our community who’s injured, regardless of ability to pay.”
