In the Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine, primary investigators are focused on the many demands of research. Fortunately, they have the assistance of research administrators who help provide essential support behind the scenes.

Three members of the department’s research administrators were recently invited to share their practical knowledge at the 2026 National Council of University Research Administrators Financial Research Administration Conference, held March 19-20, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Directors Bertha Magana and Vianey Jauregui, and Senior Analyst Cecilia Garcia presented the topic, “Let Principal Investigators Focus on their Research – Research Administrators Take Care of the Rest!”

“Our presentation highlighted how our department provides direct and indirect support through financial and operational guidance. Principal investigators can then focus on their research and academic careers while maintaining compliance,” the team said. “As research administrators, we also presented financial tools that assist researchers to effectively manage their grants. These include Excel templates that accurately reflect the status of the award for better decision-making.”

Their presentation also outlined the importance of having tight controls during the life cycle of the grants. They also discussed real-world examples showing how they keep administrative processes moving efficiently while supporting stakeholder relationships.
