UMC Healthcare Partners’ Vascular and Endovascular Surgery has earned accreditation in five vascular testing areas from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), a nationally recognized accrediting organization for vascular laboratories, becoming the first vascular surgery practice in El Paso to achieve accreditation in all five categories.
The accreditations recognize UMC Healthcare Partners’ Vascular and Endovascular Surgery for excellence in:
Extracranial Cerebrovascular Testing
Peripheral Venous Testing
Peripheral Arterial Testing
Visceral Vascular Testing
Screening
The IAC accreditation process is nationally recognized for promoting quality, consistency and patient safety in diagnostic imaging and vascular testing.
“This accreditation has been one of our goals since I joined UMC Healthcare Partners after retiring from the Army in 2021,” said Dr. Gilbert Aidinian, division chief of vascular and endovascular surgery at UMC Healthcare Partners. “The IAC has a meticulous process to make sure accredited labs are as good as they can be. I want the community to know that the care patients receive here, from testing through
treatment, meets rigorous standards throughout.”
Vascular ultrasound is used to diagnose and monitor carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, venous disease and aortic aneurysms. Many patients require long-term monitoring to track disease progression and determine when intervention may be necessary.
“This accreditation reflects the exceptional work of Dr. Gilbert Aidinian, Dr. Abdur Jamal, and the entire Vascular and Endovascular Surgery team, as well as the strong partnership between UMC Healthcare Partners and Texas Tech Health El Paso”, said Jacob Cintron, president and CEO of the El Paso County Hospital District. “This achievement reflects our shared commitment to excellence at every step of the patient experience. From diagnostic testing to treatment and follow-up care, our patients can be confident they are receiving care that meets the highest national standards.”
Dr. Aidinian, who also serves as associate professor of surgery at Texas Tech Health El Paso, said the accreditation benefits patients by helping ensure vascular ultrasounds are performed and interpreted with a high degree of accuracy. Reliable ultrasound results provide the information needed to guide treatment decisions, potentially reducing the need for additional, more expensive diagnostic testing.
“We are proud to partner with UMC Healthcare Partners to advance exceptional care for our Borderplex community,” said Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A., president of Texas Tech Health El Paso. “This remarkable milestone of five national accreditations for vascular testing reflects the commitment of Dr. Gilbert Aidinian, our faculty and the entire Vascular and Endovascular Surgery team, as well as the strength of our partnership with UMC. Their dedication to rigorous standards, patient safety and the highest quality of care benefits patients across our region.”
Led by Dr. Aidinian, the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at UMC Healthcare Partners provides traditional, minimally invasive, and endovascular treatments for conditions including atherosclerosis, aneurysms and venous disease. The practice is located at 10410 Vista Del Sol Dr., El Paso, Texas 79925.
UMC Healthcare Partners is committed to meeting the growing health care needs of El Paso and the surrounding region. As chronic conditions such as diabetes continue to increase the risk of vascular disease and related complications, the demand for specialized vascular care continues to grow. Dr. Aidinian said achievements such as this national accreditation not only benefit patients but also help attract highly qualified specialists to the region.
“High-quality vascular surgeons are attracted to organizations that are committed to excellence and invest in accreditation,” said Dr. Aidinian. “This achievement demonstrates that we are serious about vascular care and vascular testing.”
